Medical Device Expertise

The Warren County area is home to a cluster of medical device companies—including AngioDynamics, Navilyst Medical, and C.R. Bard—that specialize in catheter technology, including angioplasty and disease treatment through minimally invasive techniques.

The medical device cluster formed after World War II, when several serial entrepreneurs started catheter-based companies that grew over time and were acquired by larger national interests. The cycle repeated a number of times and today there are third and fourth-generation production workers, designers, and management employed in the region.

Catheter Valley Workforce Tops 2,000

Nicknamed “Catheter Valley” due to this medical device concentration, the region has a workforce of roughly 2,000 employees with medical device expertise.

These companies thrive in part due to their proximity to other technology and R & D centers: within an hour’s drive are RPI, SUNY Polytechnic Institute's Albany-based College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering campus, Albany Medical Center, and GE Global Research.
