Chris Detmer was a pioneer in the migration to the North Country of ambitious and creative New York City entrepreneurs 50 years ago. They blazed a path of opportunity that, unusual then, is becoming a superhighway of success.

With business partner Tom Lloyd, Chris came to Warren County and formed Adirondack Scenic. They had a dream of building big, dazzling sets and scenery for Broadway proChris Detmerductions. Some of their earliest opportunities arose with a local client with national ambitions, the Lake George Opera Festival, and in short order, their company of talented visual storytellers caught the eye of major corporate clients, including GE, Disney, Universal Studios, Sports Illustrated, and theme parks, casinos, supermarkets, cruise lines, and restaurants worldwide.

Along the way, they modernized the company name to Adirondack Studios and opened offices in Orlando and Shanghai. Chris and Tom were models for other entrepreneurs as they found a way to pursue big-time commercial opportunities while living full, satisfying lives in our smaller, quieter communities. He cherished the places where he, Tom and their team built their business. Chris served on the boards of The Hyde Collection, the Glens Falls Symphony and North Country Ministries. He died on April 24, 2022, at 80.

Chris Detmer and Tom Lloyd created good career opportunities for hundreds of North County craftspeople, builders, creators, and dreamers – and their work continues today to dazzle audiences around the world. We send our gratitude and our thanks to the Detmer family and all the people of Adirondack Studios.
