EDC Warren County co-sponsored a cultural awareness presentation on Tuesday, October 19, featuring Nicole Hylton-Patterson, Director of the Adirondack Diversity Initiative. The presentation, held at SUNY Adirondack in Queensbury, New York, focused on creating a people-first, community-centered diversity, equity, and Inclusion, and belonging (DEI+B) strategy.
Local business and community leaders, as well as non-profit and local government leaders, attended this presentation.
“We encourage education on diversity and inclusion and are actively seeking more guest speakers on the subject,” says Jim Siplon, CEO and President of EDC Warren County. “Beyond it just being the right thing to do, celebrating diversity is vital to our community’s growth and has strategic economic benefits. Diverse groups of people are relocating and investing in our region, and we want to do all we can to ensure our communities are safe, welcoming, hospitable and inclusive. This is an essential piece of our economic growth strategy as well as our evolution as a whole society.”
“The challenges of building a workforce are relevant to this topic as well,” Mr. Siplon adds. “We need to involve everyone in the potential pool of skilled workers we need to build a vital, thriving economy in the long-term.”
The program was co-sponsored by Glens Falls Hospital, the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce, Behan Communications, Inc. and Advokate, LLC.
