Rude Betty, the snarky gift store currently located on Exchange Street, is moving around the corner to 170 Glen Street in downtown Glens Falls, the second new retail store relocating to first-floor commercial space on Glen Street in a matter of months.
EDC caught up with Rude Betty’s owner, Jeff Strief.
EDC: Jeff, can you tell us the reason behind the move?
JS: Rude Betty has outgrown its current location on Exchange Street and is looking to expand its product offerings while still maintaining space for its saleroom space. We will be adding gourmet chocolates and bulk candies to our mix, as well as original graphic tees and apparel, and generally increasing our fun selection of cards, gifts, housewares, books, games, and novelties.
EDC: What made you choose Glen Street?
JS: Exchange Street was a great place for us to get started in Glens Falls, and we enjoyed great foot traffic while there was a popular lunch spot across the street from us. One of the comments we’ve heard repeatedly though, is “You guys should be on Glen Street.” So, with four years of success behind us, and the cafe across the street becoming office space, it felt like this is the right time to make that move. We were then fortunate enough to connect with the new owner of 170 Glen Street as he was preparing to renovate the space and was looking for a tenant. We felt the location was a perfect fit.
EDC: When do you plan to open in the new space?
JS: We are getting very excited to make the move over there in the next month or two. There have been a couple of contractor delays in getting the work done due to the ongoing pandemic, but we’re optimistic that we’ll be in the new space before summer.
Rude Betty is the sister store of Happy Jack’s in Bolton Landing, opening in 2017 “to bring some snark into downtown Glens Falls,” promising customers that they will “literally LOL” browsing through gifts, toys, and books for all ages. From sassy socks to rubber chickens, scented candles and soaps to toothbrushes imprinted with “Hey Crankypants. I love you,” Rude Betty truly has something for everybody.
