GlobalFoundries has been selected to operate two new semiconductor fabrication facilities in Malta under a historic U.S.-Japan initiative representing yet another extraordinary milestone for the Capital Region’s economy.
With the potential for $21 billion in investment, thousands of construction and related jobs, and more than 1,000 permanent high-skilled positions, this expansion further strengthens our region’s standing as a global center for advanced manufacturing and innovation.
But the economic opportunity extends well beyond Malta.
As recently reported by the Albany Business Review, significant new housing developments are already moving forward near the GlobalFoundries campus, with investors anticipating additional residential and commercial growth over the coming decade.
EDC Warren County has long recognized the importance of our geographic connection to Saratoga County, one of New York’s fastest-growing counties. With the GlobalFoundries campus located approximately 30 miles south of Glens Falls, the potential for economic growth to extend northward is both significant and increasingly relevant.
As Saratoga County continues to attract investment, jobs and new residents, communities like Glens Falls, Queensbury and Lake George are well positioned to serve as a northern hub for an increasingly interconnected regional economy.
This growth presents opportunities for housing, entrepreneurship, professional services, recreation and the quality-of-life amenities that attract and retain talent.
It also reinforces the importance of our ongoing work to expand housing opportunities, strengthen workforce development, support local businesses and encourage strategic investment in our communities.
Warren County isn’t simply a potential beneficiary of the Capital Region’s growth. We have an important role to play in supporting and accommodating its next chapter.
Congratulations to GlobalFoundries, our friends and economic development partners in Saratoga County, and the many public and private organizations whose efforts continue to strengthen the Capital Region’s global competitiveness.
Regional economic growth doesn’t stop at county lines. Neither should our thinking about economic development.
