2022 NYSEDC Economic Development Conference!

On Monday, February 28th, EDC Warren County, NY, was part of the 300 attendees from around New York State that came together over two days to share best practices and learn about programs, policies, initiatives, and the legislative session.

Highlights included opening remarks by Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, and thoughts from Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. We also heard from Hope Knight, the president and CEO of Empire State Development. Breakout sessions occurred throughout the morning discussing prevailing wage, marketing and digital communications, and inclusive growth. A surprise guest during the lunch hour was Governor Kathy Hochul, delivering a New York State outlook and opportunities ahead.

The conference also included a legislative update from Assemblymember Billy Jones, Assemblymember Carrie Woerner, Senator Jeremy A. Cooney, and Senator Anna Kaplan on development and market-ready/shovel-ready opportunities to move our state’s economy forward. Further breakout sessions were heavily attended, in topics including strategic communications for economic developers, human capital, overcoming barriers to employment and supporting the workforce, the state of broadband in New York State, recovery & resilience, innovation in agriculture economic development, and site selection and development.

We met the Strategic Business Development team at Empire State Development and heard about updates regarding industry development in new media, cannabis, breweries, semiconductor technology, power, and more.

The event offered boundless opportunities for information and networking beyond the capital region.
