On School and Career

My name is John Wheatley Jr., and I attended the University of Rhode Island, where I earned a
Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies with a Minor in Marketing.

On Life in Warren County

I grew up in Saratoga Springs, NY and thoroughly enjoy activities in the ADK Mountains. I’ve
hiked “Lake George 12” and am currently working on my “ADK 46”. Camping on the islands in
Lake George and exploring what the beautiful Adirondacks have to offer has always been a
passion of mine, and I feel as if it has driven/inspired much of the work I have accomplished
here at The EDC.

Outside of the office, I enjoy working out, golfing, and most outdoor activities. I also love the
beach, New England summers, and Boston Red Sox baseball. Above all, I try to spend most of
my free time relaxing with family and friends.

On Economic Development in Warren County

My time with EDC began last summer, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it throughout the year.
The most appealing part about EDC throughout the hiring process was the expertise that the
employees carry, as well as the initiative to make a tangible impact in our community. My role is
important to me because it allows me to contribute to the economic growth and development of
a region that I deeply care about.

Some of the most interesting and important projects I’ve been working on at the EDC include
new business plans and reverse marketplace initiatives, which have taught me valuable skills in
project management, data analysis, and strategic planning. Through these experiences, I’ve
gained a far deeper understanding of economic development processes. In addition, my role
revolved around brand identity and social media marketing. I grew our follower base and
tracked insights such as reach, engagement rate, clicks, etc., all while building a comprehensive
brand kit that promoted consistency and ensured our messaging was clear.
