Plumbers Regional Training Center

Plumbers Regional Training Center

Apprentices at the new state-of-the-art U.A. Local 773 Plumbers and Steamfitters union regional training center, which opened in Glens Falls in September 2013, can learn clean room construction techniques as well as other essential trade skills.

Clean Room Construction Training and More

The training center features:

  • A 700 square-foot clean room area, enabling students to train for work constructing specialized facilities for the Capital Region’s growing numbers of high-tech businesses
  • 18 welding training booths
  • A virtual welding simulator
  • A 185-seat video-equipped classroom and conference room

Skills that the program participants will acquire include orbital welding and specialized knowledge for working with medical gas equipment.

College Credits, Journeyman Credentials

In contrast to traditional college or trade school learning environments, apprentices in the program are employed by contractors during the day and attend evening sessions at the training center three nights a week over five years. They earn college credits while doing so, and finish the program with journeyman credentials.

Additional Sites at Tech Meadows Park

The $5.5 million regional job training center of Local 773 is located at the Glens Falls Local Development Corporation’s Tech Meadows park, located half a mile from Exit 18 of I-87 (“the Northway”). Additional lots are available at Tech Meadows park.
