Glens Falls took an important step forward this week toward implementing one of New York’s first regional connectivity innovation pilots, an initiative designed to strengthen cellular service, support economic growth, and create a model for communities across New York State.
This week, the Glens Falls Common Council approved participation in the Glens Falls-Lake George Connectivity Innovations Project, marking a major milestone in moving the initiative from planning to implementation.
The next steps include similar approvals by the Village of Lake George and Warren County, followed by final intermunicipal agreements that will allow implementation to begin.
Backed by nearly $2 million through New York State’s ConnectALL Connectivity Innovations Program, administered by Empire State Development, the initiative will deploy Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) and next-generation Wi-Fi technologies to improve cellular connectivity in high-demand downtowns and visitor destinations.
While each participating municipality will temporarily advance working capital during implementation, virtually all project costs are reimbursable through New York State, resulting in an estimated net local cost of approximately $5,000 per municipality once the project is complete.
Why was our region selected?
Glens Falls and Lake George offer a unique combination of vibrant downtowns, concentrated visitor activity, strong municipal partnerships, and one of New York’s premier tourism economies. Together, these assets create an ideal environment to demonstrate innovative infrastructure that can be replicated by communities across the state.
This partnership brings together the City of Glens Falls, Village of Lake George, Warren County, EDC Warren County, Empire State Development, and Hudson Valley Wireless around a shared vision for strengthening regional competitiveness.
At EDC Warren County, we believe strategic infrastructure investments like this create the foundation for long-term economic growth, stronger communities, and continued regional competitiveness. As our economy becomes increasingly mobile, connected, and experience-driven, partnerships like this help ensure our downtowns, businesses, residents, and tourism destinations remain competitive for decades to come.
