A Winning Tradition Returns to Glens Falls!
Congratulations to the Greater Glens Falls basketball tournament committee, its dedicated volunteers, and everyone who helped secure the return of the New York State Boys Basketball Championships to Glens Falls for 2028 through 2030.
For decades, Glens Falls has held a special place in New York State basketball history. Beginning in 1981, generations of outstanding young athletes, coaches, families, and fans have traveled to our community to experience championship basketball.
The tournament’s legacy includes future basketball stars such as Stephon Marbury, Lamar Odom, and Kemba Walker, along with hometown legends Jimmer Fredette and Joseph Girard III. It’s a tradition that has helped make Glens Falls one of New York’s most recognizable high school basketball destinations.
But the significance extends well beyond the court.
The championships are an important part of Warren County’s Experiential Economy, bringing thousands of visitors into our region and supporting local hotels, restaurants, retailers, and other businesses during the important late-winter tourism season.
Previous estimates placed the tournament’s annual local economic impact at approximately $2 million, demonstrating the value of attracting and retaining signature events that build community pride while supporting local jobs and businesses.
Special recognition goes to the local organizing committee, its leadership, the many volunteers, Harding Mazzotti Arena, and the community partners whose continued commitment has kept this tradition alive.
This is about more than bringing back a basketball tournament. It’s about celebrating a proud legacy, showcasing our community, and creating new economic opportunities for Glens Falls and the surrounding region.
Congratulations to everyone who helped bring the championships home.
