Chestertown, New York, was named as the number one Affordable Lake Town in a Forbes Magazine article in August 2020.

“This Southern Adirondack lake town is home to just 515 residents and just as beautiful as many nearby lake towns for a lot less cash. The small lakes around Chestertown have been booming with second homebuyers this year, who make up about 80% of the real estate market,” said the article.

Chestertown features Dynamite Hill Recreation Area, a hotspot for sledding, ice skating, snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing. There is a tow rope up the hill when they’re open. In the summertime, there are hiking and single-track mountain biking trails to explore, with no admission fees.

Other recreation opportunities include horseback riding at Circle B. Ranch, kayaking and fishing in the many lakes and ponds, and exploring the Natural Stone Bridge and Caves.

Downtown Chestertown has an array of unique shops such as Panther Mountain Traders: Adirondack Rustic Finds For Home & Cabin, Accessories and Giftware, The Crossroads: A specialty and gift shop, and Rustic Charm: An Adirondack artist co-op, to name a few.

This charming town is also home to many dining establishments such as Main Street Ice Cream Parlor, Angie’s Restaurant, The Bullhouse, The Odd Duck, Panther Mountain Inn and Tavern, and Silver Star Restaraunt and Tavern.

Chestertown is located very close to its pricier neighbors Lake George and The Gore Mountain Region. According to Forbes, the median lake home in Chestertown is $493.900.
