Across the Adirondack region, access to affordable, reliable child care has become one of the most significant challenges facing our workforce, employers, and communities.
An estimated 80% of our region is considered a child care desert. The consequences extend far beyond working parents. Businesses struggle to fill positions, young families face difficult decisions about where to live and work, and communities risk losing the very people needed to sustain future economic growth.
EDC recognizes that child care is not simply a family issue. It is essential economic infrastructure, every bit as important to our region’s competitiveness as housing, transportation, and broadband.
That’s why we’re proud to help convene business leaders from Warren, Franklin, Clinton, Essex, and Hamilton counties for an important regional conversation:
Child Care Is Everyone’s Business: Building a Stronger Adirondack Region
Thursday, October 29, 2026
11:15 a.m. Registration | 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Program
The Carriage House at Fort William Henry, Lake George
Working alongside the Adirondack Community Foundation and Adirondack Birth to Three Alliance, we’re helping build a regional business coalition that will advocate for practical, innovative child care solutions suited to the unique needs of Adirondack communities.
With New York State committing to a significant expansion of child care resources, this is an especially important moment to ensure our region has a strong, unified voice in shaping those investments.
We’re not asking businesses for financial contributions. We’re asking for their voices, perspectives, and connections.
Whether you’re a major employer, small business owner, community leader, or advocate for regional growth, your participation matters.
Please join us October 29 as we work together to strengthen our workforce, support young families, and build a more resilient Adirondack economy.
