EDC Warren County is deeply saddened by the passing of Mark Smith, Supervisor of the Town of Johnsburg and member of the Warren County Board of Supervisors.
Mark was just beginning a new term as the town’s Supervisor and brought a rare combination of vision, intellect, and public service to his work. As a member of the Warren County Local Development Corporation Board, he was a thoughtful and engaged partner who consistently focused on helping small business and how Johnsburg could be positioned for long-term, sustainable growth while honoring its unique character.
Mark’s career reflected a deep commitment to service and leadership. From his time as a U.S. Army Lieutenant, to his work in global business and pharmaceutical research, to his role in local government, he brought perspective, discipline, and a genuine desire to make systems work better for people and communities.
His legacy in Johnsburg will be felt for years through the groundwork he helped lay for future opportunity. He believed in planning ahead, investing wisely, encouraging entrepreneurs and ensuring rural communities had a voice in shaping their own economic future.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mark’s family, friends, colleagues, and the Johnsburg community during this difficult time. He will be remembered with great respect and appreciation.
