EDC Warren County is encouraged to see a new round of FY2026 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) funding that will help airports across New York modernize runways, enhance safety, and preserve critical transportation infrastructure.
These investments are an important reminder that transportation assets remain a key part of a region’s long-term competitiveness.
It’s also worth noting that these federal grants are typically focused on maintaining safe, reliable public infrastructure. Projects often include runway rehabilitation, lighting, navigation systems, drainage, safety improvements, and other upgrades that help airports continue serving their communities. They are not necessarily about expanding airport operations.
For regions like Warren County, airports play an important supporting role in the broader economy. They provide access for businesses, manufacturers, entrepreneurs, visitors, emergency medical flights, public safety agencies, and tourism. They also help companies connect with customers, suppliers, and investment opportunities.
Like broadband, highways, rail, water infrastructure, and energy systems, aviation infrastructure is one component of a resilient regional transportation network. Businesses increasingly evaluate the strength of an entire region’s infrastructure when making location and expansion decisions, and communities across New York continue to invest in these assets to remain competitive.
As part of that commitment, EDC President & CEO Jim Siplon serves on the Warren County Airport Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee, contributing to a long-term planning process that seeks to balance economic opportunity, operational needs, environmental stewardship, and community priorities. We believe thoughtful planning and open dialogue are essential to ensuring the airport continues to serve the needs of residents, businesses, visitors, and public safety agencies for years to come.
While Warren County Airport was not a recipient in this latest round of federal funding, the statewide investments highlight the importance of preserving critical infrastructure that supports economic opportunity while continuing to be responsible neighbors and good stewards of our communities.
Infrastructure is not just about moving people. It’s about connecting communities to opportunity.
