HometownGF (Hometown Shop) is opening this weekend on South Street, bringing a fresh, design-forward retail concept to one of the fastest-evolving parts of our community. Located directly across from the new farmers market facility, the shop blends home décor, gifts, pantry items, and even design services.
What makes this story especially meaningful is who is behind it.
The owners, Kara Magoolaghan and Matt Rafferty, relocated to the region in 2023 and saw an opportunity to create something that didn’t yet exist locally. Their vision is simple but powerful. Help people feel more at home in the community they’ve chosen.
This kind of investment is exactly what’s driving momentum on South Street:
• New housing bringing residents downtown
• The farmers market creating consistent foot traffic
• Small businesses like this adding energy, identity, and experience
It’s also a strong example of how New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative is translating into real, on-the-ground impact. Public investment is helping create the conditions for private investment to follow, and entrepreneurs are taking notice.
This is how a downtown evolves. Incrementally, intentionally, and with people willing to invest in place.
We encourage the community to stop in, welcome them, and support their opening.
