The USDA Economic Research Service has designated Warren County, NY as a High recreation-concentration county, placing it among a select group of U.S. regions where recreation and tourism are foundational economic drivers.
That national designation aligns closely with findings from the Warren County Planning Department’s Outdoor Recreation Economy Strategic Plan (2025), which documents that recreation and tourism support more than one in five local jobs, generate $859 million in annual visitor spending, and rank among the top quality-of-life factors for residents.
For EDC Warren County, this alignment reinforces the importance of the Experiential Economy pillar of our economic development strategy. Thoughtful investment in placemaking, infrastructure, broadband, housing, and workforce development ensures that a destination-driven economy also delivers long-term value for year-round residents, employers, and communities.
