• Median RN wages are now approximately $93,600 nationally, with advanced roles exceeding $130,000
• Employment for advanced-degree nurses is projected to grow by roughly 35% over the next decade
• Healthcare has been the largest source of job creation in the U.S., even as other sectors cool
• Wage growth in healthcare has outpaced many other industries and is more broadly distributed across income levels
At a time when traditional pathways such as manufacturing and certain white-collar roles face disruption from automation and economic volatility, healthcare stands out as stable, in-demand, and fundamentally human-centered work.
What does this mean for Warren County and the North Country?
It reinforces something we are seeing on the ground every day.
Healthcare is not just a service sector here. It is a core economic driver.
Our regional healthcare institutions, workforce training partners, and education systems are collectively supporting:
• Career pathways that lead to long-term financial stability
• Talent attraction and retention in a competitive labor market
• Population stability in rural and small metro communities
• Opportunities for upward mobility and entrepreneurship
Just as important, this trend connects directly to our broader regional strategy.
Our quality of place, from the Adirondacks to Lake George, plays a meaningful role in attracting and retaining healthcare professionals who are increasingly able to choose where they live and work.
At the same time, there is an opportunity to further align healthcare with our productive economy, particularly in areas like medical devices, innovation, and applied research.
The takeaway is clear:
Healthcare is becoming the modern foundation of the middle class in America. For regions like ours, the communities that invest in workforce development, housing, broadband, and quality of life will be best positioned to capture that growth.
Warren County and the North Country are well positioned. But continued focus and coordination will be key.
