Hockey culture in Glens Falls/Adirondack region isn’t just a local passion. It’s a way our community connects with the wider world. Young players grow up on the ice dreaming big, and sometimes those dreams literally come true.
A perfect example is the unforgettable story of Brodie and Reece Lanoir, two local boys who lost their father and found a moment of joy through hockey. In 2019, then-18-year-old NHL star and US Olympic Gold Medal hero Jack Hughes, of the New Jersey Devils and an affiliate connection through the Adirondack Thunder, welcomed them to the Prudential Center for a special skate and time on the ice. Jack spent nearly three hours with the boys, teaching them how to tape sticks and sharing laughs and skating, a memory that the family still treasures.
This story, beautifully captured by The Chronicle’s Gordon Woodworth, speaks to something special about our region: the impact of strong hockey roots that extend far beyond our rinks. Thanks to the Adirondack Thunder’s connection to the Devils organization, moments like this bridge communities, inspire young athletes, and show the world how Glens Falls hockey families support one another on and off the ice.
