New York’s tourism headlines have recently pointed to softening trends. But here in Warren County, the story is more nuanced and, importantly, more resilient.
Recent analysis from the State Comptroller highlights declining hotel occupancy rates across parts of the state, including the Capital Region. Those signals matter. They point to emerging headwinds tied to international travel, Canadian visitation, and broader economic uncertainty.
But when we look at what’s actually happening on the ground in Warren County, the picture is more balanced.
In 2025:
• Occupancy tax collections reached $8.3 million, up 3.6 percent year-over-year, outpacing inflation
• Sales tax collections grew to $75.6 million, up 1.9 percent
• Accommodation and Food Services employment increased by 1.1 percent
That’s not a tourism economy in decline. It’s one that is holding steady.
What we may be seeing is a shift. Slight softening in occupancy is being offset by stronger pricing, steady domestic visitation, and the continued strength of our experiential economy anchored by Lake George and the Adirondacks.
At the same time, some volatility in sectors like Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation appears to be driven more by post-pandemic normalization than broader economic weakness.
The takeaway is clear:
Warren County’s tourism economy remains stable, but not immune. State and national trends point to risks ahead, particularly if international visitation continues to soften or pricing power weakens.
That’s why this moment reinforces the importance of a balanced economic strategy. One that continues to support tourism while also investing in year-round economic drivers, infrastructure, and business growth across all sectors.
Resilience doesn’t mean standing still. It means staying ahead of what’s next.
