A recent Federal Reserve analysis, highlighted by economist Andrew Busch, points to a key shift:
It now takes more job creation just to keep unemployment steady, due to stronger labor force growth nationally.
That’s a positive sign for the U.S. economy.
But it highlights a different reality here in Warren County.
We already have a high labor force participation rate (~75%)
Our workforce is aging
Key sectors. tourism, healthcare, manufacturing. are already labor constrained.
Our challenge isn’t job creation. It’s workforce capacity.
What this means:
Economic growth today isn’t just about attracting employers.
It’s about enabling people to work.
That means focusing on:
◾ Housing
◾ Broadband and connectivity
◾ Childcare and workforce access
These are not side issues. They are core economic strategy.
The key takeaway:
Regions like ours won’t fall behind due to lack of opportunity.
They’ll fall behind if they can’t expand their workforce capacity.
At EDC Warren County, that’s exactly where we’re focused.
