Logo for The EdEDC Warren County announces The Edward M. Bartholomew, Jr. Memorial Fund, informally called “The Ed,” established in August 2021 to honor the EDC’s former President and Glens Falls’ former Mayor, carrying forth his legacy of dedication to public service, his passion for the community, and his enthusiasm for economic development by investing in the next generation of leadership.

The Ed is committed to creating opportunities for businesses and organizations who may need assistance, and to people who don’t have all the access that they deserve. The fund provides funding for paid internships for students, veterans, and people with differing abilities at Warren County nonprofits and small businesses, matching interns with internship locations twice yearly.

Under the umbrella of the Glens Falls Foundation, it is overseen by EDC Warren County and the Bartholomew family along with an independent appointee from the community, Mark Frost, founder of The Chronicle.

We are holding our first fundraiser for The Ed this Friday, September 17, 2021, in a Disc Golf Tournament. There are still spots available, so sign up ASAP! Click here to register.

UPDATE:

The disc golf tournament raised nearly $10,000 for the Edward M. Bartholomew, Jr. Memorial Fund!4 young white men stand in the trees holding frisbees and wearing gray t-shirts.

“We had such a wonderful event,” says EDC spokesperson Amy Potter. “For the majority of the players, it was their first time trying the sport. We know Ed was proud of this park as it keeps growing, adding a diverse attraction to the city of Glens Falls. Thank you to the Crandall Park Beautification Committee, Elizabeth Little Hogan, and her family for tending to the course just hours before tournament time to make sure the players had the best experience. Course steward and co-host, Greg Hill from Innova, provided the necessary structure to run a successful event while also providing pro tips to the players. We thank all our volunteers, Ed’s family and close friends, and the event sponsors as we look forward to launching the internship program.”

EDC Warren County board chair and disc golf player, Matt Fuller, stated, “The event was absolutely fantastic. You would not have known it was a first-year event and Ed would have loved this.”

There were many local dignitaries on hand at the event as part of the outpouring of support as EDC Warren County President, Jim Siplon, spoke after the tournament honoring Ed’s legacy. “You are all here today, to not only play great disc golf at this great place, but you are here because Ed has touched your life in one way or another. He would have been so proud of this crowd here today and for the support of his family.”

The winners of the tournament for the men’s and women’s divisions were Tyler Calazada (shot a 44) and Karly Daly (shot a 58). Par for this course is 55. Calazada said, “this is my personal best at this course.”

Discs commemorating the event will be sold at Fountain Square Outfitters, while supplies last, with the proceeds going to this Fund.

More events around Warren County are being considered as The Ed fund looks to expand the number of internships offered to the community.
