As Warren County’s economic development organization, EDC Warren County is proud to endorse Proposition 1, the constitutional amendment concerning the Mt. Van Hoevenberg Olympic Sports Complex in the Adirondack Park.

Why we support it and why it matters locally:

◾ Legal clarity & long-term stability

The amendment brings this historic Olympic facility into alignment with the State Constitution (Article XIV, “Forever Wild” clause).

Legal certainty matters for investors, events and community planning.

◾ Year-round tourism and events = economic impact

The complex hosts top-tier Nordic skiing, biathlon, training and international competitions. That means increased visitor stays, lodging tax revenue, hospitality jobs and spin-off services in our broader Adirondack/western Warren County region.

For Warren County’s economy which is reliant on outdoor recreation, scenic natural assets and tourism diversification, keeping the region in the game matters.

◾ Net land gain and conservation benefit

In trade for authorizing up to ~323 acres of forest preserve land use, the amendment requires the State to add at least 2,500 acres of new forest preserve land to the Adirondack Park.

That’s a meaningful conservation win, supporting the “wild lands + economic vitality” balance we champion.

◾ Local workforce & supply chain multiplier

Events and facility operations generate jobs — direct (venue staff, sports management, recreation services) and indirect (lodging, restaurants, transportation, retail). For Warren County, this supports our objective of growing high-value, year-round employment beyond the summer peak.

◾ Call to action for tomorrow:

Please check your voting status, head to the polls or submit your absentee ballot, and consider how this proposition supports the long-term resilience of Warren County’s recreation- and tourism-based economy.

Let’s keep the Adirondacks strong, wild and economically vibrant.
